A Life Shaped by Stories

Schoanna Daswani is a Manchester-based reader, writer, and founder of Vian’s Book Corner, a community-driven literacy initiative built on the belief that books quietly shape the architecture of our lives.

Long before professional titles and business responsibilities, there were stories.

Stories that offered perspective.
Stories that softened difficult seasons.
Stories that stretched imagination beyond geography and circumstance.

Reading, for Schoanna, has never been a hobby. It has been a lifelong discipline of empathy.

Now based in Manchester, she balances family life, entrepreneurial work alongside her husband, and a lifelong devotion to literature. While she is engaged in business ventures within the city, her personal mission is centred on nurturing a culture of reading and thoughtful conversation.

She believes literacy is not merely academic preparation, but a foundation for character, empathy, and intellectual depth.

Life in Manchester — A Reader’s Perspective

Manchester is often described as industrial, ambitious, and culturally electric. For Schoanna, it is also intimate.

It is the quiet corner of a café on a grey afternoon.
The steady rhythm of rain against library windows.
The particular stillness of turning pages while the city hums outside.

The city’s layered history, migration, reinvention, and resilience deeply influence the kinds of stories she gravitates toward: novels about belonging, courage, generational memory, and the quiet strength of ordinary people.

Reading in Manchester is not an escape. It is participation, a way of understanding both self and society more deeply.

Literary Philosophy

For Schoanna, reading is formative. It shapes moral imagination, strengthens discernment, and cultivates the interior life.

Books cultivate patience in a distracted age.

They encourage reflection in a reactive culture.

They develop emotional intelligence in a world that often rewards speed over depth.

Her work seeks to restore reading as a shared cultural practice, within homes, communities, and public spaces.
